
Rusumo Power Company Limited (RPCL) recently concluded a high-level study tour to the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) from 7th to 11th May 2025. The delegation comprised members of the RPCL Board of Directors, the Project Steering Committee, and the company’s senior management. This strategic engagement marked a significant milestone in promoting regional collaboration and knowledge exchange in transboundary water resources management and hydropower development.
As part of the study tour, the RPCL delegation visited the iconic Kariba Dam and its associated North Kariba Power Station, operated by ZESCO. The visit provided an opportunity for in-depth technical discussions focused on best practices in dam safety, hydropower generation, and operational management of hydroelectric facilities.
In his opening and closing remarks, ZRA Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Munyaradzi Munodawafa, underscored the importance of such regional engagements in strengthening cooperation. He further emphasized the vast potential of the Zambezi River to enhance electricity supply within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region and the critical role of effective river basin management in addressing energy challenges.
RPCL Managing Director, Eng. Ntare Karitanyi, expressed profound appreciation to ZRA for hosting the delegation and facilitating a platform for mutual learning. He provided a brief history of RPCL, outlining the key milestones and challenges encountered during the construction and execution phases of the Rusumo project.
At the Kariba North Bank Power Station, the RPCL team was welcomed by Senior Power Station Manager, Mr. Kenny Singongo, who highlighted the station’s vital contribution to the region’s energy security. He also addressed the evolving challenges facing hydropower production, particularly in the context of changing climate conditions.
