
On July 9th, 2025, the Audit Commission of the Shareholding Countries of the Republic of Burundi, the Republic of Rwanda and the United Republic of Tanzania held an entrance meeting of the Compliance Audit of Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Projects (RRFHP) with the management of RPCL at RPCL office located at Rusumo border between Rwanda and Tanzania. The meeting was led by the chairman of the Audit Commission Mr. Alexis Kamuhire, the Auditor General of the Republic of Rwanda, who was together with Mr. André Rudaragi representing Mr. Elisée Ndaye, the State Inspector General of the Republic of Burundi and Mr. Charles E. Kichere, the Controller and Auditor General of the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of the RPCL Shareholders have been auditing RPCL and Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Project since 2021 as it was recommended by its Shareholders. This audit exercise ensures integrity and transparency of the Company’s current and future operations. The audit commenced on 30th June 2025 and expected to be completed on 03rd August 2025.
After the meeting, the Auditor Generals conducted a field visit to the repair and reconstruction sites of the community houses which were damaged by blasting works done during the construction of the 80MW Regional Rusumo Falls Hydroelectric Power Plant on both sides of Rwanda and Tanzania.
As of now, the 80MW Rusumo Power Plant is operational and is operated and maintained by RPCL; the National Utilities of Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania are purchasing electricity from RPCL since November 2023.
